Introducing Three New Courses from Coaching Actuaries

For years, students have encouraged us to expand into upper-level exams. In 2025, we took a major step by launching our first FSA course, CP 351. Our team worked hard to build a high-quality course in a timely manner, and we’ve been genuinely encouraged by your positive feedback. Here’s what one recent student shared:

"I’ve really enjoyed using the Coaching Actuaries materials for CP351. The manuals are exceptionally thorough, with clear numerical examples and graphs that make the concepts much easier to understand. My favorite part is the summary sheet—it’s genuinely the best tool I’ve used throughout my exam preparation. I also appreciate the four mock exams you created."
You’ve intentionally covered a wide range of concepts and testing styles, which really helped me strengthen my understanding. One of my colleagues is using [another provider] for CP 351, and after comparing the materials, I truly feel that Coaching Actuaries provides a better learning experience.”

Feedback like this motivates us to keep improving and finding new ways to support our students! Today, we’re excited to share that we’re expanding into upper-level FSA exam prep and the next level of CAS exam prep. This milestone brings us another step closer to empowering aspiring actuaries at every stage of their journey.

Extending Our Mission Into Challenging New Areas

In early 2026, we will launch three new courses designed to help you advance toward your credential:

  • INV 101 – Portfolio Management (SOA Investment Practice Area)
  • INV 201 – Quantitative Finance (SOA Investment Practice Area)
  • Exam 6U – Regulation and Financial Reporting (CAS)

Each course extends our mission (“to help our students find success at every stage of their journey”) into some of the most challenging domains in actuarial education. Here's a closer look at each one.

INV 101 – Portfolio Management

INV 101 introduces you to the investment landscape, covering key asset classes, portfolio construction and evaluation, and the fundamentals of credit risk management. It’s the foundation of the SOA's Investment practice area.

Developed by experienced instructors, including Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) charterholders and credentialed actuaries, our course draws on several CFA Institute readings. We pair concise lessons with Coach’s Remarks, Concept Checkers, a robust Practice platform with grading rubrics, Mastery Score® for personalized feedback, flashcards, and more.

INV 201 – Quantitative Finance

INV 201 forms the analytical core of the SOA investment practice area, taking you deeper into financial derivatives, valuation techniques, and risk management applications. Through our Learn and Practice system, you’ll build your understanding step by step, gaining the tools you need to understand derivative pricing and confidently apply these concepts on exam problems.

New Instructor: Ambrose Lo, PhD, FSA, CERA. Authored study manuals for ATPA, FAM, MAS-I, SRM, and PA Adjunct Associate Professor in Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, University of Hong Kong

Led by Dr. Ambrose Lo, FSA, CERA, an author of well-regarded actuarial exam manuals, our INV 201 course breaks down mathematically demanding topics into clear, approachable lessons. Dr. Lo focuses on teaching concepts from the ground up so students can truly understand, and even enjoy, these challenging topics.

Exam 6U – Regulation and Financial Reporting

Finally, Exam 6U is required for ACAS and FCAS designations. Its curriculum covers U.S. insurance regulation, solvency monitoring, financial reporting, taxation, and professional responsibilities.

Our new course brings clarity and structure to this wide-ranging syllabus through clearly written manuals, graded assignments, and CAS-style practice problems with diverse item types.

New Instructor: Regina Chan, FSA. Exam 6U Course Content Reviewer Director, Actuarial at State National Companies 12 years experience in pricing, data science, predictive modeling, and reserving

Plus, all manuals are reviewed for accuracy and clarity by Regina Chan, FCAS, an actuarial leader with over 10 years of experience across pricing, data science, predictive modeling, and reserving.

What This Means for You

Our expansion into upper-level SOA and CAS courses is about more than adding new offerings. It is about elevating what students can expect from their exam preparation experience.

You’ll receive the same clarity, support, and data-driven structure that define our preliminary courses, now extended to exams where the stakes are even higher and thoughtful guidance matters even more.

Plus, our modern platform continues to evolve to help you learn and practice challenging material in a curated and effective way.

Whether you’re diving into the SOA's Investment practice area or stepping into regulation and financial reporting, we’re here to support you. And we’re excited to continue walking and growing alongside you.
